Just knowing the signs and being watchful about with whom and how our children relate is not prevention. Culturally, important strides have been made to educate and build awareness about sex abuse. Authentic prevention requires exploring cultural norms and impacting change at that level.

“Prevention is not an acceptable answer to sex abuse – we need deep cultural change.”

We are not content with using the word prevention, or employing typical program approaches called “prevention”.  The word prevention means, “to act in anticipation of an event” or “suggest a warding off of imminent danger”.

 In other words, when we “do prevention”, we accept the fact that sex abuse is in our culture and we work to keep it from happening. 

We are not willing to settle for that!

Connections is providing the leadership necessary for the faith based community to wrestle with the presence of sex abuse in our culture and declare that we have ZERO TOLERANCE for its presence.

 We are:

• Gathering key leaders to form the core committee to oversee the process of implementing social change.
• Studying the issue and the root causes of the acceptance of sex abuse in our culture.
• Doing self-examination along the lines of the Restoration Paradigm.
• Identifying areas that can be targeted for change.
• Forming a new message that will reframe the issue and the identified root causes.
• Proposing and developing an approach to affect social change.
• Leading the movement.

While this unfolds, begin the process of self-examination and become aware!
